This morning we woke up too late to see James and Jo... We had reservation with the Fat Tire Bike Tour at 11 am. Jo mentioned that it would take 45 minutes to get to the meeting point. We left late and rushed to make it on time, me telling Mike that we should've had skipped breakfast... of course we were the first one there! 15 minutes early. While we were waiting for everyone else to get there it started to rain... not too much but a constant rain. There it turned out to be a rain-on rain-off day. I wore my rain coat the whole day.
The bike tour is a great way to see London. You get to see tons of places and get information from the guide. Th tour pace is on the slow side when you bike from one spot to the other which is not a bad thing. The only bag thing i found was that we don't have enough time to take pictures. Even when the tour stop and the guide talk. You want to listen but then off we are again without having taking pictures. The plan anyway is to come back to some of those places tomorrow anyway so no big deal.
We stopped in a English pub for lunch. It was delicious! I got a Fisherman Pie with green peas and and carrots. Mike got something yummy too.
Th tour went on for another 2 hours after lunch. It ended at the lady Di memorial. Nice park with a water ring around it... simple (not a big golden statue like everywhere else in the city) but very nice too me (lots are complaining that it is not great enough for Lady Di).
I should be able to describe all the things that we saw during the tour but as I'm writing this 10 days after my memory is not that great. Plus i have trouble remembering names. I know that we stopped at the Buckingham Palace, saw Big Ben through the tree (very bad location for the tour to stop) and when through 4 royal parks!
After the tour, we jumped on the tube to see the British Museum. Dad you would go crazy in there! It is just so big. All this stuff that the British stole from other countries. It is incredible! We started in the Egypt section. I wanted to see mommies. I can't believe how well some bodies are preserved... I have a few good pictures. One in particular; not sure how old the body was (thousand and thousand years old) preserved by the sad. The guy (or gal, I couldn't tell) still has hair! Amazing. This free museum is just too overwhelming though. Too much stuff to see,too much stuff to read... after 1 hour my brain started to hurt. Mike and I decided that it was enough for the first day and promised ourselves that we will be back everyday to do an hour at a time.
Jumped on the tube again (I love the underground... we can just go everywhere in no time!) to make it back to Jo to meet with James to walk to the restaurant.
This evening was great. I got to see so many lovely people. Finally met with Julie. It was just so nice to talk to everyone. Neil and Carol gave me a card yesterday representing my English heritage. I got everyone to sign it tonight. BTW we went to a Tapas restaurant. I love tapas! The food was just so tasty.
What a nice evening!
PS: Neil surprised me with something at the restaurant. I'm sure every one in my family can figure out what it is... something that we always get when Nan goes to England or when Aunty Gwen used to visit... Penguins :) Not sure if any will be left for my xmas trip to canada... i'll do my best :)
