We woke up early enough this morning to see Loukas and Marcia. They were getting ready for work and Mike and I were trying to figure out what we would do of our day. Today is our last day in London already! We decided to go to the Tower of London and hopefully have time to go to the British museum one more time before we go. First we dropped our bag to Jo. This was kind of out of the way but it was better than carrying our stuff all day with us... plus travelling on the tube is so easy so it just meant starting the day a tiny bit later.
Got lunch in Fulham. I am now getting used to the expensiveness of London. I try not to think of it too much. Everything needs to be multiplied by 1.6 to get the value in american dollars... Mike and I are very grateful to have had some free dinners a couple of night this week...
We arrived at the tower around 1pm... we left the tower (got kicked out) at 6:30pm. It was a great afternoon. We got the audio tour so we got lots of information most of it I already forgot (since I'm actually writing this 10 days later). But I did retain some information. This castle was first built in 1066. Crazy to think that i was touching stones that were put there close to a 1000 year ago!!! The Tower of London got famous for some of its prisoners and execusions that happen there. One for Henri VIII eight wife got exhecutered there ony a few years after she got married to him. Also two there is a mistery about two young prince vanishing at some point after their father died. They never found the boys (although bones were later found on the ground of the castle) and never figure out who've killed them. There was a fe suspects (like thir uncle) but nobody was ever found guilty... One of the main attraction at the Tower is to go see the Royal Jewels!!! You enter large security doors and there you can see all the crowns and expensive gold plates and a lot of oher stuff that I can remember the name of.
We finished the tour entering into the castle. We only had a few minutes to go through the 3 floors before they close... Mike and I are becoming very good at speeding through things and still see the heart of it :)
Overall the tour was very good. I really like to imagine what life must have been back then. It is hard but being able to walk on the ground of the Tower of London gives you a better idea.
We had a few hours until dinner with Joanne, Neil and Carol. Mike brough me in the Soho neighbourhood. We followed one of Jo's walk card. It is very nice. I wish we had more time to spend an evening here... oh well... again we will have to come back.
For our last dinner in London, we met with Neil, Carol and Jo in Fulham. Jo brough us to a nice Thai restaurant. It was great to spend more time with them. Now that I have been to London and met many of my relatives, i hope I'll get to come again soon and spend a little more time. Also hope that some of them will come visit me in California :)
